I recently purchased this amazing little digital TV, and yes it is a small TV, with a screen that is 11.1 inch , butas it is for use on my bedside table, the size isn’t an issue. It is arguably the coolest TV on the planet and is the worlds first OLED TV.  This Digital TV uses OLED technology for the display. OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. OLED screens use organic materials that emit light when an electrical current is passed through them. This has several advantages over the more common LCD panels, most of us have as a TV or computer monitor. LCD screens rely on a backlight to generate the picture. This means the screens are lit from behind and can suffer from light leaking through and so they have trouble displaying a true deep black. OLED screens can turn off individual pixels to produce stunning blacks and brilliant contrast that no other display technology can match. It is also extremely energy efficient.

The XEL-1 also has no motion blur issues that some cheaper or older LCD screens can have issues with. The bottom line is the XED-1 has one of the most amazing pictures of TV today. It also is incredibly thin, being a very slender 3mm thick. To say SONY has done a great job with the design of this TV would be a massive understatement. In my opinion its an absolutely gorgeous design. The screen is mounted on an arm to a pedestal base that contains the speakers and electronics, and where all connections are made. The pedestal is very solid and so makes a stable base for the screen. The speakers although clearly small, actually put out a full sound. I was expecting a much more tinny sound, similar to what many laptops produce, but have been pleasantly surprised with how good the sound quality is. As I am just using this screen for TV watching, the sound is more than adequate.

The SONY XEL-1 originally had retail price of AUS$6999 and so was well out of my price range, but I managed to pick one up at significantly better price. Still not cheap but as this model is no longer available, I felt it was an opportunity to enjoy what is in my opinion the current pinnacle of TV technology. I am extremely happy with this TV and am constantly amazed at the picture quality.  If you can find one I highly recommend it, especially if you can get it at a great price too.

I rate this product 9.5 out of 10 but 10 out of 10 if you can get at a great price
