Weber *Baby Q* BBQ

Weber *Baby Q* BBQ

A few weeks ago my old 4 burner BBQ suffered a critical failure. After about 12 years it had internally rusted and my most used burner had fallen out.

I looked at a few BBQs  and decided on the Weber *babyQ* model bbq. I got the Q100 model but only after further  research realized I should have got the Q120. The only difference is the Q120 comes with side tables built in, and so saves AUS$30 over buying them as accessories, and in my situation, I needed them.

I bought the unit with its folding stand, which is great and I imagine will prove V handy if I want to take the BBQ anywhere. I also purchased the *premium* griddle.  I had a *Magic BBQ Sheet* on my old bbq, which I put on the griddle. These are a plastic sheet that makes a flat hotplate like its teflon coated, and so means oils are not needed, which should make cooking healthier, but definitely makes clean up a lot easier. I highly recommend this product, and noticed that they are commonly available at any decent BBQ outlet.

Speaking of decent outlets, I had the misfortune of purchasing mine through BBQs Galore(a large franchise) and was left extremely dissatisfied with the experience, and have since bought all my accessories form a weber specialist, located in Hampton (Vic, Australia).

Anyway back to the product. I have been using it about 4-5 nights a week and absolutely love it. Its very quick to warm up, uses V little gas, compared to my old 4 burner, but best of all it makes the food taste fantastic. It is also V quick to cook on as you cook with lid down, which speeds the process. The heat and smoke convecting around the BBQ means meat is infused with a great smokey flavour. Unfortunately, I no longer cook hash browns on BBQ as they don’t taste as good as they did on 4 burner, due to overly smokey taste.  I really don’t care about this as its a small price to pay for how awesome everything else tastes.

I have since purchased a small cast iron griddle(AUS$14.95 @ Aussie Disposals store), that allows me to have more grill area for meats, over the premium Weber griddle, and so with both, can use the right one, depending on what I’m cooking. I am glad I have both. I have also purchased the Weber roasting trivet. I can use it to do roasts and even bake stuff, or cook pizzas on the bbq.

I am extremely happy with this product but after some use, the next size up (Q220), may have been a better choice, for when I have more ppl to cook for,  but as that’s extremely rare, and this ones a lot more portable, I have probably got the right one for me, but do consider how many ppl will be cooked for before you decide which model.

I rate this product 9.5 out of 10…awesome!
