Things I would own if I won lotto

I will add to this from time to time but to get it started

URWERK WATCH

I would love to own an URWERK watch. These watches are revolutionary in design and unsurpassed in craftsmanship. The design reminds me of the legendary Curta manual calculator(see below), in that it is technically brilliant, yet awe inspiring in its execution. I love fine engineering and design and URWERK excels in both areas, as well as being a thing of beauty. Urwerk have a small team of 5 craftsman who will spend 3 years designing a watch and the company produce about 200 watches a year.

The designs seem to give a digital read out on a precision analogue movement. At a glance you can see the time by reading the number at the bottom and noting the minutes by the scale it points at across the bottom of watch. In the pic below the time is 8:17.

I’m sure I would happy with any URWERK watch but if I had to pick one, I would choose the 103 Edition speciale. Its a very nice watch. A close second would be the 103T which also is a very nice watch. If anyone would like to buy me either, just drop me an email 😉

CURTA

As alluded to above, I love the Curta manual calculator and would also love to own one(hopefully I won’t have to win lotto to get it though). The story behind these amazing machines is almost as fascinating as the device itself. They are the brainchild of Curt Herzstark. An amazing and brilliant man who lived a very interesting life. To use the device you adjust sliders along the side to set a  number and then crank the handle to get your result, which is displayed on top of the device.

You can read an interview with him HERE . I found the interview fascinating. This device is a marvel of engineering and design. Although I know it works, I sort of feel that it shouldn’t. It seems like something that defies logic. To be designed under the conditions it was just adds to the wonder. I have no doubt it is probably the single best example of engineering a single man has created and hopefully it goes down in history as such.

Bimota Tesi 3D

I couldn’t just right about this bike here so did a blog entry dedicated to it, so check out the coolest motorbike entry to see why I want one. I would love the black one but if I won enough money I would get both 🙂 This bike is sex on wheels
